Unite comment on Burton’s Foods ruling out any chance of keeping
the Moreton site open

Unite regional officer, Ritchie James, said: “Burton’s
consultation exercise on the proposals to close the Moreton site
appears to be a total sham in light of the recent comments made by
the company’s spokesperson.
“The reference to the many millions of pounds spent on the
Moreton site is news to Unite, the union representing the
workforce. Burton’s has been unwilling to share this vital
information with Unite despite numerous requests.
“Unite remains committed to presenting an alternative to the
company’s proposal in spite of the company’s determined and alleged
thorough research. Burton’s is repeating the mistake of 2007
in undervaluing the workforce, Unite and the community’s
determination to keep the site open.
“Our main priority is to help our members who are facing an
uncertain future. We will be calling on the local community to
support Burton workers in a mass rally on February 26.”
