Unite at Labour party conference 2011: Tough action needed to make
power accountable

Unite, Britain's biggest union, will be pushing for action on
the rules governing media ownership and trade unions at this year's
Labour party conference in Liverpool (beginning Sunday 25
September).
Unite will call for action to create an effective and
accountable balance of power in society in the wake of the News
International scandal, including examining the important role
independent trade unions play in society.
Unite fringes will include debates on the economic alternative
and the right to strike and Unite speakers will contribute to
fringes on fighting the coalition's cuts, Palestine and rebuilding
Britain's railways.

- The Economic Alternative: Monday 26 September
12.30 - 14.00 speakers include, Unite general secretary Len
McCluskey, Labour's shadow chancellor Ed Balls MP and Labour shadow
cabinet office minister Jon Trickett MP.

Europe: Why are we the poor
relation? Wednesday 28 September 12:30-14:00 - Len
McCluskey, Unite general secretary, will debate with Kate Allen,
director of Amnesty International UK, Keith Ewing, Professor of
Public Law at Kings College London and Unite executive member,
Martin Mayer.
