7 July 2011
Unite the union and insurance giant Legal & General will
today (Thursday 7 July) mark 15 years of positive industrial
relations with events at the company’s head office in Hove, Sussex.
In an open day the organisations are promoting their ongoing
relationship.
The media is invited to attend at 12 noon to view the truly
unique nature of the relationship between the trade union and the
finance organisation. Interviews with senior managers and union
representatives can be arranged on request.
When: 12pm (noon), Thursday 7 July
Where: Legal & General, City Park, The Droveway, Hove, BN3
7PY
At noon Legal & General managers and worker representatives
will participate in a partnership 'penalty kick out'.
The partnership relationship between the two organisations has
reaped massive rewards for the workforce. The belief that good
employee relations demonstrates a commitment to employees and
recognition of their value to the organisation has made a visible
difference to the success of the organisation.
To mark the importance of the partnership anniversary, Legal
& General is urging any employee who is yet to join the union
to do so. The company will donate £10 to charity for every new
member recruited during July. Events and competitions will take
place to promote the principles of partnership across the
business.
David Fleming, Unite national officer, said: “Unite’s
relationship with Legal & General makes clear the benefits to a
business once it recognises the positive value employee engagement
brings.
“There is, no doubt, that Legal & General’s acknowledgment
of the value of its workforce brings positive results for the
entire business. Partnership day in Hove will be a real
unique opportunity for the media to engage with managers and
employees to hear and see the difference that working so closely
can have during tough economic times.”
Sue Jordan, Legal & General location director for Hove,
said: “For Legal & General the Partnership with Unite is about
mutual trust, openness and cooperation. Working hand-in-hand with
Unite is now part of our DNA, just the way we do things round here.
I can't imagine how we'd succeed as a business and continue to
drive forward with change without Unite's ongoing involvement and
contribution.
“I'm proud of our relationship with Unite here at Hove - we work
productively and constructively together in the best interests of
our people and our business.”
