Backing public sector workers taking action on 30 November: Unite
operational note

Unite, Britain's biggest union, will have senior officials
speaking at events across the country in support of public
sector workers taking part in the historic day of action on 30
November.
- Unite general secretary, Len McCluskey, will attend the rally
at Victoria Embankment at 2pm which assembles at Lincolns Inn
Fields at 12.00pm.
- Unite assistant general secretary, Gail Cartmail, will attend a
rally and march in Southampton which assembles at Hogsland Park for
a 12.30pm march to Guildhall Square.
- Unite assistant general secretary, Tony Burke, will attend a
rally and march in Brighton which assembles at Victoria Gardens at
11.30am.
- Unite assistant general secretary, Diana Holland, will attend a
rally and march in Bristol which assembles at College Green at
11.00am, rally in Castle Park starts 12.30pm.
- Unite's director of executive policy, Steve Turner, will attend
a rally at 12.00pm City Hall in Sheffield followed by a march.
- Unite's Scottish regional secretary, Pat Rafferty, will attend
a rally at Barrowlands Ballroom at 1.15pm which assembles at
Shuttle Street, Glasgow at 12.30.
- Unite's executive officer, Tony Woodley, will attend the
Birmingham Pensions' Justice march and rally at the National Indoor
Arena at 12.30pm.
- Unite's Welsh regional secretary, Andy Richards, will attend a
march and rally in Cardiff gathering at 11.30am at King Edward VII
Avenue, Cathays Park, 12pm march then 12.45pm rally at SWALEC
stadium.
- Unite regional secretary Jimmy Kelly will attend a rally in
Northern Ireland at 1pm, Belfast City Hall.

Three in four Unite members have said ’yes' to joining the
national day of action on 30 November. In Unite's three main
aggregate ballots of health, civil service and local authority
workers 75 per cent of Unite members voted in favour of action on a
turnout of 31 per cent.
Unite represents a broad range of occupations within the public
sector in the UK and encompasses several professional bodies.
Members can be found in the NHS, local government, Ministry of
Defence (MoD), further education, government departments and also
in not-for-profit organisations where many workers still belong to
public sector pension schemes. It encompasses workers ranging from
health visitors, pharmacists and blood service staff to local
authority refuse collectors and electricians. Unite also represents
workers maintaining MoD bases.
