Unite welcomes government's commitment to the Royal Navy's next
generation of aircraft carriers
14th January 2010
Unite, Britain's biggest union, has today (Thursday 14 January)
welcomed the government's commitment to the next generation of
aircraft carriers with contracts worth £330 million being awarded
to companies across the UK.
Unite's national officer for aerospace and shipbuilding, Bernie
Hamilton, said: "This is a clear commitment from the Labour
Ggovernment to the Royal Navy and to thousands of skilled UK
manufacturing jobs. The future aircraft carriers will be an asset
to the UK, but Tory cuts could put the programme at risk, hitting
highly skilled jobs and the Royal Navy.
"Unite looks forward to working constructively with the
successful sub-contractors."
