Tunnock’s biscuit plant dispute settled with improved pay offer
15 October 2010
The dispute at Tunnock's - the Lanarkshire biscuit factory – has
been settled after Unite members accepted an improved two-year pay
offer by ‘a significant majority’.
Unite, the largest union in the country, called off planned
industrial action, after the majority of its 350 members at the
Uddington factory accepted the pay deal worth five per cent spread
over two years.
The deal, which was brokered under the auspices of the Advisory,
Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas), means 2.5 per cent for
all pay rates backdated to 1 July 2010 and a further 2.5 per cent
effective from 1 July 2011.
Unite regional officer, Derek Ormston, said: ”Our members were
balloted on the improved offer and accepted it by a significant
majority. All future industrial action is therefore cancelled and
the dispute is now over.
”I would like to pay tribute to the work of the shop stewards
committee and the solid support given by the membership which has
contributed greatly to this fair and affordable deal.”
Unite had strongly recommended acceptance of the offer, which
followed two 24-hour walkouts.
Thomas Tunnock Ltd manufactures teacakes, snowballs and caramel
wafers and has a total workforce of 600.
