Strike action at Tunnock's to go ahead
22 September 2010
Unite members working at biscuit factory Tunnock’s in
Uddingston, Lanarkshire, will begin a 24 hour walkout starting at
00.01 Thursday, 23 September. There will be a further 24 hour
stoppage on 28 September as well as a continuous overtime ban and
work to rule also beginning at midnight tonight.
At the mass meeting held this afternoon the members felt the
offer did not go far enough. Workers will formally vote on whether
to accept or reject the offer with a postal ballot due to close on
4 October.
Unite regional officer, Derek Ormstone, said: "The members feel
let down and angry and believe the two per cent increase does not
go far enough. They believe that Tunnock's approach has been all
about smoke and mirrors rather than genuine negotiations. Strike
action will now go ahead from midnight tonight but we still remain
available to talk."
