Unite Sefton council workers will tomorrow (22 October) take
part in a joint union protest against funding cuts which the union
warns will have a devastating impact on jobs and communities across
the region.
Council workers are angry following the government’s spending
review announcement yesterday that more than a quarter of Sefton's
budget (28 per cent) will be slashed over the next four years with
the axe ready to fall on staff and services.
Unite is demanding that the coalition comes clean on the full
details of where their services and jobs will be affected.
Unite regional officer, Debbie Brannan, said: “This is absolute
proof that we certainly are not all in this together. It
doesn’t seem fair that Sefton has emerged as one on the worst hit
areas.
”Our members have been left distraught by the news. 28 per cent
funding cuts will devastate jobs and services across Sefton – and
our members and their families shouldn’t be left in the dark about
where the axe will fall on their jobs and services
.
“The coalition must come clean on the true extent of these cuts and
the impact on services in Sefton. Our members are making a
stand today against these cuts but this will be just the beginning
of their fight back.”
