Oxford University Press: Unite members taking strike action at
Corby
12 October 2010
Unite members are taking strike action at Oxford University
Press’ warehouse in Corby today (12 October). The strike started at
6am and ends at 6am on Wednesday (13 October).
The dispute is in response to the company offering a two per
cent wage increase for this year, which has been overwhelmingly
rejected. The staff are claiming a wage improvement of 4.2
per cent.
The staff suffered a wage freeze last year, when all other
employees at OUP enjoyed an increase of two per cent.
The combined turnover of OUP in 2009 and 2010 was £500
million.
A further two days of strike action is planned for next week,
the action will be continuous until the company makes a realistic
offer.
Steve Sibbald, Unite national officer, said: "Our members have
shown great resolve against a company that has been cynically
attempting to exploit the current economic crisis. Our members are
determined to resist and improve their terms and conditions for now
and for the future."
