Nanas suspend strike as Nestlé makes new offer to keep them

Unite members who were due to take strike action on Thursday (24
June) at Cereal Partners UK (CPUK), a joint venture by Nestlé and
General Mills, have called off one of the three planned 48 hour
strikes following a last minute offer by the company to improve
their terms and conditions.
Unite regional officer, Jim D’Avila, said: "Following the threat
of strike action we have managed to secure certain improvements to
our members’ terms and conditions. Therefore, strike action planned
for this week will no longer take place and the new offer will be
put forward to the workforce.
"Our members did not want to strike, but were left with no
option because of the pay-freeze being imposed by the company.
Their message is clear, if management choose to impose a
non-negotiated pay deal then our members will retaliate."
This dispute is over an enforced national pay-freeze policy
announced by Nestlé and the refusal of the local CPUK management to
deviate from the Nestlé imposed stand-still on pay.
Two further 48 hour stoppages have been scheduled to commence on
8 July and 26 August 2010.
