Meet with your workers' union, Unite urges Kraft CEO ahead of
Bournville visit
6 October 2010
Speaking ahead of the visit tomorrow (Thursday) to Cadbury's
Bournville plant by Kraft CEO Irene Rosenfeld, Jennie Formby, Unite
national secretary for food and drink, said: "Cadbury workers will
be pleased that Irene Rosenfeld is taking the time to see for
herself the excellent work they do at Bournville.
"But they will also want to ensure that she makes the time to
meet with their representatives, Unite stewards, to assure them of
a bright future for all Cadbury/Kraft sites in the UK and
Ireland.
"Unite urges Ms Rosenfeld to use some of her time here to do
just that."
At present, Unite says it has not been approached by Cadbury's
management to meet with Ms Rosenfeld but the union says its
stewards stand ready to meet with the CEO at any time.
Unite continues to press for a Cadbury's law to prevent the
hostile takeover of otherwise healthy UK businesses and to deepen
shareholder responsibility towards the long-term well-being of
companies in which they have a stake.
The union also wants a ‘Mergers and Takeover Commission’ to be
established to review UK law which, as with Cadbury, means that
while shareholders can pocket hefty profits, the workforce is left
without jobs guarantees and uncertainty about the company's future
piles up alongside the debt amassed by its purchaser.
Kraft completed its purchase of Cadbury earlier this year.
