Coke talks break down - strike now likely
10 September 2010
Talks between Unite and Coca-Cola at Acas to resolve a pay
dispute at the company's north London Edmonton plant broke down
without resolution last night (Thursday).
Wayne King, Unite regional officer, said: "Coca-Cola has
unfortunately failed to come to these talks in good faith.
Despite the opportunity for progress presented by the Acas talks,
Coca-Cola offered exactly the same as before - that is, a real
terms pay cut.
"The only way to settle this dispute is for Coca-Cola to move
beyond its intransigent position and negotiate honourably with
Unite.
"Unite remains available for further talks, but unless Coca-Cola
improves its offer next week's planned industrial action will go
ahead."
Stoppages at the Edmonton production line will now take place
next Wednesday 15 September.
