BA cabin crew strike – day 14
31 May 2010
Update Mon 31st May 2010: Day 14 of the cabin crew
strike.
The strike days alone have now cost BA £98 million.
BA is now using smaller aircraft, which are allowed to fly with far
fewer crew, in order to increase the number of departures
today. A319 planes normally take 120 passengers. However, if
they have 95 passengers or fewer, they need only 2 crew. BA
has been sending A319s out with only 2 crew because they have fewer
passengers on board than normal.
No meals or in-flight service is provided during these
flights. Unite believes these two-crew flights are the reason
why BA is flying more Eurofleet flights today.
Earlier today, Unite held a hugely successful fringe meeting on
the dispute at its Manchester policy conference. Over 200
people packed out a room in Manchester, addressed by Unite’s joint
general secretaries and cabin crew.
