Unite comment on Ericsson and TT redundancy threats
21 January 2009
Unite is concerned for hundreds of members at two of the world’s
electronic powerhouses amid threats of widespread redundancies in
the coming year.
Peter Skyte, Unite National Officer for the IT sector, said:
“This is very worrying news at a time when highly skilled workers
are losing their jobs in their thousands across the UK.
“Any cuts in the UK would mean the loss of highly skilled
workers, precisely those which the UK and the economy can ill
afford to lose.
"Unite is determined to do everything we can to avoid further
losses. We have scheduled emergency meetings with Ericsson tomorrow
and are seeking an urgent meeting with TT electronics.
Following today's news that jobs may go on an international level
at both companies, our priority is to ensure that both companies
make their intentions towards UK workers clear as early as
possible."
