Typhoon Tranche 3 a vote of confidence in UK manufacturing, says
Unite
31st July 2009
Welcoming the announcement today (Friday) that the contract for
Tranche 3 of the Eurofighter Typhoon in the UK is to be signed by
UK government Bernie Hamilton, Unite national officer for aerospace
and shipbuilding said: “After many months of negotiations this
announcement on the Typhoon Tranche 3 is great news for the workers
and for UK manufacturing. It means that the Typhoon build continues
in the immediate term pending the decision at a later date by the
four nations on the full quota to be built.
“This order is a vote of confidence in the skills of UK defence
workers. These fighters will contain advanced equipment, allowing
BAe to compete it in the export market. This safeguards thousands
of jobs all over the UK but in particular it is good news for jobs
in the north west, south west and in Scotland.”
