Amir Khan begins the fightback with Unite for a fourth Labour term

29th September 2009

At Labour party conference this afternoon (28th September), boxer Amir Khan began the fightback for a fourth Labour term, by launching Unite's revolutionary online election campaigning tool for the union’s two million members www.Unite4labour.org.

Amir Khan joined joint general secretaries Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley at the launch. Created by Unite, the site allows Unite members to contact the local campaign in their area. This is particularly important in the key seats where the election will be won and lost.

The new website is at the cutting edge of new media and has the first ever union online telephone bank. This enables members to ring fellow members in the key seats where in every case Unite membership exceeds the Labour majority.

Unite sent officials to America during the presidential primaries, the Democratic convention and Obama’s election campaign. Working with the American United Steelworkers union during Obama’s campaign, Unite saw that union members talking to union members helped deliver victory for Obama.
