Pay deal at Honda agreed
9 November 2007
More than 4,000 workers at Honda in Swindon will receive pay
rises between 3% and 6% back-dated to April 2007.
The deal was agreed following the intervention of the
conciliation service ACAS. Pay talks broke down in April when Honda
went over the heads of the Unite Negotiating Committee and balloted
the workforce on their final offer. The workers rejected the
company’s final offer in the ballot. At which point ACAS the
conciliation service were brought in.
Unite Regional Officer, Jim D’Avila said: “In general this
is a fair deal which means that the average pay rise for Honda
workers will be 4.1%. There was concern that for the first time
since union recognition had been won in 2001, Honda had not
guaranteed at least an RPI pay offer for all workers. When we start
pay negotiations again in January for the 2008 Pay Review, we will
be insisting that all Honda workers receive a minimum RPI pay
increase.”
Jim D’Avila added, “We will also be seeking
assurances from Honda Management that there will be no repeat by
Honda of ignoring the negotiating process and balloting the
workforce. That is the responsibility of the Unite Negotiating
Committee, not Honda!”
