Unite welcomes Lord Mandelson's pledge of support

Len McCluskey, Unite's assistant general secretary, said: "For
the workers at Luton and Ellesmere Port, Lord Mandelson's pledge
today (Friday) of government support in securing a deal for the
plants will be very welcome.
"These workers have done everything that has been asked and
them, and much, much more, to turn these plants in the best in
Europe.
"It would be criminal if their skills and talents were to be
lost to the nation through this sale, which is why we welcome
government promises of support and urge them to do all in their
power to secure the right and best investor in General Motors and
stop more jobs draining from this sector."
