construction
26th August 2009
Unite, Britain's biggest union, has today (26th August) welcomed
the government's plans to appoint a chief adviser on
construction.
The chief adviser will have responsibility for strategy and
equipping Britain's construction industry with the necessary skills
and knowledge to compete in the 21st century.
Unite assistant general secretary, Les Bayliss, said: "The
construction industry is a foundation for growth. It creates
thousands of jobs and is hugely important to the economy. A chief
adviser is good news for the industry and is an appointment that we
have been calling for.
"The announcement signals that the government is taking the
coordination of the activities of the UK construction industry
seriously and we look forward to a positive relationship with the
person who successfully fills this position."
