Unite to seek best outcome for members following ACC announcement
on job losses and closures
20th May 2009
Unite, the trade union which represents over 100 workers at ACC
Bank, is to meet with management to discuss elements of the job
losses, branch closures and restructuring announced by the bank to
staff today.
“This is a major blow for communities across the country,” said
Unite regional officer Frank Maunsell. “We have already
commenced a process of facilitated discussion with management and
we will negotiate a package for those who will lose their jobs and
security for those who remain, commensurate with the fact that the
banks parent company made a profit in 2008 of euro 2.8 billion.
“ACC Bank is part of a viable and sustainable company.
Today’s announcement is a sad reflection on how the financial
crisis and boardroom decisions taken as a result of it can have a
devastating impact on the lives of those who helped to create that
company in the first place.”
“We will make sure those who are affected will be treated
fairly.”
