Unite's reaction to RBS' announcement of 500 more job losses
9th June 2009
Rob McGregor, Unite national officer said: “More Royal Bank of
Scotland staff have today (Tuesday 9th) had confirmation that they
are at risk of being made redundant. This announcement means
that 500 workers who work in the operations area of the group’s
manufacturing division have been told that they could lose their
jobs.
“This is the latest detail confirmed by RBS of the 4,500 job
losses announced in April.
“The closure of a cash centre in Glasgow impacting around 140
staff and 360 job losses throughout other UK locations will
devastate staff. Unite is opposed to compulsory job losses and
through continued consultation with the bank will seek to find
suitable alternative employment for workers.”
