Unite issues legal challenge to BA over imposed changes to
contracts
30th October 2009
Unite the union is to take legal action to stop British Airways'
plans imposing contractual changes on 14,000 cabin crew without
agreement.
The challenge, in the High Court, is over the imposition of new
contracts, including the reduction of crewing levels, which BA said
it will force cabin crew to work to from 16 November. Unite
is seeking an injunction against this imposition. This action
is separate to the ballot for industrial action which Unite
announced this week (Monday October 26th) it is intending to carry
out. The High Court hearing is currently set for Thursday,
November 5th.
On Monday, November 2nd, there will be a mass meeting of cabin
crew at Sandown racecourse, where Unite will feedback to members on
why negotiations with the company have stalled. Unite
continues to seek a negotiated solution and remains willing to
begin talks with the company at any time.
