Union TV TUC special II
16th October 2009
In a feature to be screened next Tuesday 20th October on
channel 186 of Sky digital, Union TV will air the second instalment
of its TUC special, featuring an interview with Unite's joint
general secretary Tony Woodley.
This year's TUC at the BT Conference Centre in Liverpool was the
last before the next general election. With jobs and the economy
being key battlegrounds, the views of working people have never
been so important in deciding the fate of the nation. The choice is
stark; a Tory government which will mean savage cuts and laissez
faire economics or a Labour government which is steering the UK
through the worst financial crisis in decades.
Tony Woodley sets out the global challenges facing UK
manufacturing workers and the important role government has to play
in supporting our industries.
The programme also takes a look at the relationship between
unions and the media and features interviews with Unite assistant
general secretary Les Bayliss on the problems facing workers in the
UK's construction industry, from the blacklisting of workers to the
current negotiations on a new national agreement for construction.
With the recession taking its toll on the UK's steel industry,
Union TV also speaks to Michael Leahy the general secretary
of Community, Britain's main steel union.
