Unite step up campaign to save Rolls Royce in
Liverpool
Friday, 2nd November 2007
Workers from the threatened Rolls Royce plant
in Bootle will be at the North West Labour Party Conference in
Southport tomorrow (Saturday 3rd November) to ask delegates and
members of the public to sign a petition.
Unite delegates will be tabling an Emergency
Motion at the conference for the plant to be saved.
Unite, the UK's largest trade union, has vowed
to fight to save the plant and secure the 200 jobs. Unite says it
will not stand by and watch its’ members lose their jobs and
another vital manufacturing plant lost.
Unite is calling for support from the local
community, government ministers and local MPs. Please add your
support to the campaign to keep Rolls-Royce Bootle site by signing
the petition (http://www.amicustheunion.org/pdf/A4%20Petition%20rolls%20royce.pdf)
and asking your friends and family to do the same.
Unite Regional Officer, Debbie Brannan,
said:
“This is the beginning of our
fight-back. Our campaign to save the plant will reach everyone from
Westminster, through industry and the local community.
"Our message is clear. This is a
productive plant with many UK based customers and production should
remain here.
"The companies slogan is 'Built with
Pride on Merseyside' and that's where production should remain. We
will do everything in our power to stop the closure of the site and
we ask the people and politicians of Merseyside to join us in doing
the same."
