Unite reaction to resignation of David Cairns
16 September 2008
Unite Scottish Secretary John Quigley said: “It is regrettable
to hear of the resignation of David Cairns from his post of
Minister of State for Scotland in what is a crucial time for Labour
in Scotland and across the UK.
"Last weekend Labour in Scotland elected a new leader which
should put the Party on the front foot in the fight against the SNP
and Tories in Scotland and the advancement of the interests of
working people and their families.
"It would be better if David Cairns
- and all Labour politicians and activists - took to the streets of
Glenrothes along with the Prime Minister Gordon Brown to secure a
Labour victory in the forthcoming by-election. What Labour
needs at this time is unity, not division. This is what
Unite’s hard-working members and their families demand. “
