Unite calls off industrial action at Scottish Water
24 December 2008
Unite, Scotland's biggest union, has agreed to suspend
industrial action at Scottish Water. The action planned for today,
Wednesday 24th December 2008 and involving some 2,200 workers
concerned a dispute over an imposed pay settlement for the coming
year. Unite has agreed, along with the GMB and Unison, to suspend
the action which was scheduled to run until 5th January 2009, to
allow members to vote on an improved pay offer amounting to 7.75
percent over 27 months.
Scott Foley, Unite regional officer said "We are pleased that
the company has made a significant improvement to the pay offer,
which we are recomending to our members.
"We know full well that these are testing financial times for us
all but our members work very hard to deliver significant
productivity for Scottish Water. We were determined to resist a
further cut in their standard of living and to ensure their
contribution to this essential service was acknowledged
appropriately by their employers, so I am delighted for our members
that Unite has succeeded in meeting both those aims."
