Tulip staff meet to campaign for jobs justice
22 May 2008
Unite, Britain's biggest union will hold a meeting of workers
from the Tulip factory in Redruth, Cornwall following 400 staff
signing a petition questioning the rationale behind 98 redundancies
announced by the company three weeks ago.
Unite are holding a meeting today (Thursday 22nd May) with
members at The Hub Club, (next to Carn Brea Leisure Centre) Poole
between 12:15pm and 2pm. Unite officials will be available for
interview at the Hub Club from 12.00pm to 2.30pm.
Pam Jennings, Unite Regional Equalities Officer says, "There is
concern at the way Tulip Redruth are selecting people for
redundancy. We believe the selection criteria is far too narrow. To
select people for redundancy based only on absenteeism and
disciplinary records could have serious implications. Unite wants
to ensure that if redundancies are actually necessary then they
must work with the union to ensure the process is fair and the
impact on staff is kept to an absolute minimum."
