Amicus says yes to higher higher education pay offer
11 July 2006
Amicus union can today confirm the result
of the union's consultation on pay, with its members employed
in universities in the UK.
The consultation follows long, drawn out
negotiations that also included industrial action by some
academic unions, not Amicus.
Percentage of members who took part approving the
offer: 93.7%
Percentage of members who took part rejecting the
offer: 6.3%
Amicus' National Officer, Mike Robinson says, "The result is a
massive vote to accept the offer. The pay grading
improvements negotiated by Amicus and other unions has been
overwhelmingly accepted by the Amicus membership.
"The deal will lift grades and salaries over the next three
years by 13.1% for most staff or up to 15.5% for some of our lower
paid members. This however should be measured against the level of
increases to Vice Chancellors who have far exceeded these
percentages when they pay themselves.
"Amicus will look closely at income for the third year of the
deal when, if circumstances are right, the negotiations could be
reopened if income to Universities increases. Amicus is also
mindful that the deal will also create a settled environment for UK
Students over the coming 3 years."
Amicus will write to the employers association UCEA
(University and Colleges Employers Association) today confirming
the result of the Amicus consultation with its members employed in
Universities in the UK on the pay deal in Higher Education covering
2006-2009. Our members include clerical technical skilled and
academic or related staff in many Universities across the UK.
