Asbestos Victims Support Group Lobby, Tuesday 17 October 2006, London

The Forum of Asbestos Victims Support Groups are calling on all those concerned about the provision of treatment for the incurable asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma, to arrange to meet their MPs in the House of Commons between 2 and 4 pm on Tuesday 17 October. Information will be available for MPs and their constituents in Committee Room 12, about why mesothelioma patients should have the option of treatment with Alimta®.

In June 2006 NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) announced that it would not be recommending the use of Pemetrexed Disodium Alimta®, the only UK licensed drug to treat mesothelioma. (NICE has arranged a hearing for two appeals received against the Final Appraisal Determination and Guidance on this technology. at NICE offices on 27 October 2006 starting at 10.00am.)

Experts will be on hand during the lobby to explain why it is important that NICE approves Alimta® for the treatment of mesothelioma.

Please support the lobby. For further information about the lobby of Parliament please email or call the Forum on 0161 636 7555. Those that cannot make the lobby may wish to contact their MP instead.
