Parliamentary briefing on 16th December 2009

Unite is calling on Cadbury shareholders to turn down Kraft's bid for the company as it would be funded by massive debt and could see investment decisions about UK and Ireland plants move overseas. The union and the workers are also seeking commitments that jobs, wages and pensions will not be slashed to pay for any "borrowing to buy" strategy by Kraft or another bidder.

Unite took the case for Cadbury to the highest levels of government meeting with business secretary Lord Mandelson where they thanked him for his personal support for the campaign and urged him to continue to help preserve Cadbury's independence and stability.
