Model letter to Hilary Clinton
Use the model text below to send a letter to Secretary
of State Hilary Rodham Clinton requesting visas and visiting rights
fro family members of the Miami 5.
You should send your letter to: Secretary of
State Hilary Rodham Clinton , 2201 C St. NW, Washington,
DC 20520 USA
Dear Hilary Clinton ,
I respectfully request that you grant entry rights into the United
States, for the following two Cuban women, so they are able to
visit their husbands, who are currently held in U.S. prisons:
- Olga Salanueva Arango
wife of René González, reg.#58738-004, who is currently in F.C.I.
Marianna, Florida
- Adriana Pérez O’Connor
wife of Gerardo Hernández, reg.#58739-004, who is currently in
U.S.P Victorville, California.
These two women, upstanding and productive citizens of their
country, should be able to visit their husbands on humanitarian
grounds.
I am aware that these two women have been denied visas on a number
of occasions and neither has been able to visit their husbands for
over seven years. This is a particularly cruel and unusual
punishment.
Amnesty International have said
‘In the absence of a clear and immediate threat posed by such
visits, this measure is unnecessarily punitive and contrary both to
standards for the humane treatment of prisoners and to states’
obligation to protect family life’
People around the world are aware of this inhumane situation and
there is no justifiable reason to keep the families
separated.
I hope you will review this matter favourably and grant entry visas
into the United States and help keep the families together.
Yours sincerely,
