"Fairness for all" - oppose the Civil Service redundancy scheme
proposals
Unite has launched a campaign to oppose the
Cabinet Office “Fairness for All” Civil Service Redundancy Scheme
proposals. Full
details of the proposals are available here.
The Cabinet Office intends to change the headline figures of the
compensation package for all Unite members in MoD and Government
departments.
Unite says the scheme is far from "fair for all". It will
have a massive impact on workers' redundancy and pension packages.
For example, a skilled employee with 20 years service on £22,000
per annum stands to lose approximately a third of what they are
currently entitled to if made redundant under the new proposals by
the Cabinet Office.
Unite will not accept this. We do not want our members to lose
their jobs, but in the case where this is inevitable then they must
be rewarded fairly so that they and their families are not pitched
into further insecurity and worry.
So to restore fairness to these proposals, we are demanding that
all Government and MoD Trade Unions are involved in future
discussions before any proposals are negotiated.
Since the Cabinet Office made these proposals, Unite has been
supporting its members by:
- Writing to the Cabinet Office secretary, Sir Gus
O’Donnell.
- Consulting with Unite solicitors to find out if the proposals
contravene the rights of members.
- Urging the Cabinet Office and Ministers in all departments to
ensure future consultations involve all Trade Unions.
We now need you - Unite members in MoD and Government departments,
including the Forestry Commission, the Royal Mint, Metropolitan
Police and Prison Service - to do your bit to fight for
fairness. Please register your outrage at the proposals with
the Cabinet Office and your local MP - and ask your colleagues and
friends to do the same.
