Enough is Enough - tanker drivers campaign
While the oil industry rakes in multi-billion pound profits, the
drivers who supply fuel to forecourts across the country are being
squeezed. For over a year Unite has been trying to convince the
industry to bring some stability back into the supply of this vital
national commodity. Yet, behind the scenes, the major employers
have been slashing drivers’ terms and conditions and cutting
corners on training and safety in a bid to win contracts. Following
the 11 May agreement Unite will be working with the seven oil
distribution firms, the Department for Energy, Environment and
Climate Change (DECC), the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and
other interested parties to implement the Acas proposals.
News, letters and updates
Campaign materials
Fears over safety and growing instability in the supply of fuel are
driving oil tanker drivers ever closer to strike action to defend
their livelihoods.
This is not about pay, it is about ensuring that high safety and
training standards are maintained. It is about bringing fairness
and stability back to an industry that is controlled by faceless
global giants.
Unite is calling for industry minimum standards and industry
wide bargaining on pensions, terms and conditions, training and
health and safety.
