Amalgamated Society of Vehicle Builders, Wheelwrights, Carpenters & Mechanics
Established in 1873 the Amalgamated Society of Vehicle Builders, Wheelwrights, Carpenters & Mechanics had its Head Office in Wigan. The union catered for workers producing and repairing railway wagons and absorbed a similar smaller union in 1920. When it merged with the AEU in 1945 to form the Vehicle Building Section of the union it had a total membership of 5,783.
