AMICUS
In 2001 the Amalgamated Engineering & Electrical Union (AEEU) and the Manufacturing: Science: Finance Union (MSF) decided to merge. The Executive Councils of the AEEU and MSF agreed unanimously that the name for the new union should be AMICUS. The name derives from the Latin word meaning friend, supporter, wise councillor and partner. The new union with a membership of more than one million was launched on January 1st 2002. Amicus with members in both the private and public sectors became the largest manufacturing, technical and skilled persons union in the UK.
