Engineers & Electricians together
Amalgamated Engineering & Electrical
Union (AEEU)
In 1992 the AEU and EETPU agreed on a merger
forming the Amalgamated Engineering & Electrical Union (AEEU)
creating a union with a total membership of just under one million.
As early as 1889 the electricians had expressed a desire to
amalgamate with the engineers but the ASE considered the use of
electricity to be nothing more than an industrial gimmick and that
the electricians would be unable to meet the high levels of skill
expected of traditional engineers!

Cabin Crew ’89
Cabin Crew ’89 was a breakaway union formed
in 1989 by disenchanted airline members of the Transport &
General Workers Union (TGWU). The union became the subject of a
great deal of discussion within the TUC Disputes procedures during
the 1990s. Cabin Crew’89 became a section of the AEEU on April 1st
1999 and eventually part of AMICUS representing members working on
thirty different airlines.
