Electricians & Plumbers
Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication
and Plumbing Union (EETPU)
In 1968 the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) and
the Plumbing Trades Union (PTU) joined forces and formed the
Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication and Plumbing Union
(EETPU). It was originally a union for skilled members only but
quite soon extended its membership to include any worker employed
in the trades covered by its title. In 1992 the union members
agreed on an amalgamation with the AEU a decision which created the
Amalgamated Engineering & Electrical Union (AEEU).

Electrical & Engineering Staff
Association (EESA)
The Electrical & Engineering Staff
Association (EESA) with a membership of over 6,000 was established
in 1971 as a separate section of the EETPU with its own National
Officials.

United Operative Plumbers Association of
Great Britain & Ireland & PTU
In 1865 two Plumbers Societies based in
Manchester and Liverpool met and formed the United Operative
Plumbers Association of Great Britain & Ireland. In 1911 the
union became the United Operative Plumbers & Domestic Engineers
Association of Great Britain & Ireland. The union eventually
adopted the title Plumbing Trades Union (PTU) in 1946. The union
joined forces with the Electrical Trades union in 1968 to form the
Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication & Plumbing Union
(EETPU).

Electrical Trades Union (ETU)
The Electrical Trades Union (ETU) began its
life in 1889 when electrical workers in two small organisations
based in Manchester and London agreed to form a new union. The
union though small joined the Federation of Engineering &
Shipbuilding Trades in 1906 and didn’t really greatly increase its
membership until the 1914-1918 war years. In 1968 it joined with
the Plumbing Trades Union (PTU) to form the Electrical, Electronic,
Telecommunication & Plumbing Union (EETPU).

National Union of Crane & Lift
Workers
In 1921 the National Union of Crane &
Lift Workers was formed. Never having more than a few hundred
members the union amalgamated with the ETU in 1934.

United Kingdom Association of
Professional Engineers (UKAPE)
The United Kingdom Association of
Professional Engineers (UKAPE) was registered as a trade union in
1969. Ten years later in December 1979 UKAPE merged with the ‘white
collar’ section of the EETPU the Electrical & Engineering Staff
Association (EESA).
