United Kingdom Commercial Travellers
Association (UKCTA)
The United Kingdom Commercial Travellers
Association (UKCTA) began its existence in 1883 and retained that
title until it dropped ‘Kingdom’ and simply became the United
Commercial Travellers Association (UCTA). The union merged with
ASTMS in 1976

Managers & Overlookers’ Society
A Yorkshire based union the Managers &
Overlookers’ Society was founded in 1827 as the Yorkshire Managers
& Overlookers’ Society. The union dropped Yorkshire from its
title in 1921. The Society remained an independent union for 150
years until it merged with ASTMS in 1977 with a membership of
1,200.

Tobacco Mechanics Association
In 1919 Bristol Branch members of the
Cigarette Operators Society of London formed the Cigarette Machine
Operators Society. In 1938 with its head office still in Bristol
the Society had a membership of 500. In 1975 the union decided on a
name change to Tobacco Mechanics Association. The union was an
affiliate of the TUC and merged with MSF in 1989.

Association of Professional Tourist
Guides (APTG)
Founded in London in 1989 with 90 members as
a Branch of MSF the Association of Professional Tourist Guides
(APTG) had grown to 400 members by 2005 as an autonomous Branch of
Amicus.

Community Practitioners & Health
Visitors Association (CPHVA)
In 1896 seven London women Sanitary
Inspectors founded the Women Sanitary Inspectors Association and in
1918 the association which now included Health Visitors in its
membership registered as a trade union. In 1929 the union became
the Women Public Health Visitors Association and in 1962 changed
its name again to the Health Visitors’ Association (HVA). With just
over 16,000 members the HVA merged with and became a section of MSF
in 1990. In 1996 the association changed its title yet again
becoming the Community Practitioners & Health Visitors
Association (CPHVA).

National Union of Scalemakers (NUS)
Founded in 1909 as the Amalgamated Society of
Scale, Beam and Weighing Machine Makers, the National Union of
Scalemakers (NUS) survived a split in the membership in 1923 when
its London members broke away to form their own organisation. The
warring factions were brought together by the TUC in 1928 and took
up the more simplified name in 1930. The union membership passed
the 1,000 mark in 1937 and following the acceptance of women as
members in 1941 passed 2000. In 1993 the union merged with
MSF.

Guild of Textile Supervisors
A Manchester based union the Guild of Calico
Printers, Bleachers, Dyers and Finishers Foremen was founded in
1911 and eventually had members in England, Scotland and Northern
Ireland. In 1974 the union changed its name to the Guild of Textile
Supervisors. The union merged with MSF in ???

Post Office Managers Staff Association
& CMA
The Post Office Controlling Officers
Association had its beginnings in 1906 but did not affiliate to the
TUC until 40 years later in 1946. The union enjoyed several mergers
and name changes before becoming the Post Office Managers Staff
Association in 1968. The Association changed its name yet again
when it became the Communication Managers Association (CMA) in
1981. The Association merged with MSF in 2000.
